Cooking with Anders - salsa

This is technically Auntie Lori's recipe, but it is just too good not to share.
  1. 5-6 roma tomatos
  2. 1 small Jalapeno (de-seeded) I don't like my salsa very spicy - adjust to your taste level
  3. 1 small onion
  4. salt & pepper
  5. 1 spoon garlic - we used minced
  6. a squirt of lime juice
  7. fresh cilantro

We have this handy spinner/chopper machine we use for Salsa... mom holds it while I turn the handle.

How's it looking?
 just a few more turns...
Yes, I know... I'm wearing 2 different socks.  I did it on purpose.
 There you have it-
Delicious Salsa!

That's an odd looking zucchini!

Turns out, it is a pumpkin!  It was mismarked when we bought it...
Oh well, I like to grow pumpkins too!
Here is a garden update, the lettuce & radishes did well earlier in June when it was still kinda cool.  They are all done growing now.  The deer have eaten off most of the cucumber & pepper plant (we need a taller fence).  The tomatoes are just starting to ripen, we pick some every few days.  But the carrots are growing nicely!

I help cut off the green part & then chop them into bite sized pieces.
We had to wash them & use a little brush to get them clean enough to eat.
Yes, that is MY KNIFE... We got it here, I use it all the time.  It is just right for helping hands like mine.  Stay tuned for Cooking with Anders...

2 Great Places to Stop

Well, My summer "TO DO" list is getting shorter.  There were a couple of things that I did this summer that was so awesome,  I need to add to my yearly list.  The first is a visit to Cup and Cone in WBL.  A "Mom & Pop" Ices Cream shop.

Chocolate ice cream with sprinkles in a sugar cone - Delicious!

The other place I would recommend (not just for summer) in  Leonardo's
for a delicious Pizza... Great tasting sauce with lots of cheese!

John Deere Pavilion - Moline

The John Deere Pavilion was the highlight of our road trip.  The day were were there they had a special Kids Day events planned.  We got there first thing in the morning & I started out riding the Gators (they had it set so you could only drive it in 1st gear for the city kids).
Inside the pavilion there was a ton for stuff to look at... history of JD, experimental equipment & more stuff for kids.  The mini farm yard was by far my favorite - I could have played there for hours.

John Deere's first tractor... the Waterloo Boy
A fellerbuncher (Do you even know what one of those are???)
 A really really big combine
Then we headed to the JD store to buy a few new toys...
Back at the hotel, I played with my new JD equipment.
Later in the day we went back for "Round 2"
(our hotel was only 2 blocks away - so it was good to take a break & have lunch).

Back at the Pavilion, there was a large outdoor sand box featuring JD construction equipment.
They had a cow for milking ( I actually squirted myself in the eye) HA HA!!!

There was a garden for planting & harvesting.
And a Petting Zoo,  with Baby pigs... they were so tiny & cute,
Mom wanted to bring on home (she said she would name him Bacon).
Dad's favorite part was the big barn fans with a water mister.

The John Deere Pavilion was an amazing place to visit for the family.
If any of you are interested in seeing some tractors,
next weekend is the Almelund Thrashing Show - It is a good time!

Rochester Children's Museum

On our Road trip to Moline, we made a pit stop in Rochester... to their Children's Museum.
Look at their cool water tower!
It was a lot of fun & they had a "Build a Car" with a ramp.

One ramp was bumpy...
Oh no, I'm loosing a wheel!
One ramp was smooth!
That darn wheel fell off again!
Let's race -
 Ready - Set - Go!
